How To Protect Your Facebook Account From Hacker's Link in Facebook Groups | Bacolodgeek
Hacking of Facebook accounts nowadays are increasing. You will only realized that your Facebook account was hacked when you are posting pornographic video with a hacker's link to its fake website in your group. And also, this is very alarming because some of your Facebook group members are posting pornographic video. Facebook is often sending security alerts in your notification that you have log-in in a different device or location.
How Facebook is Dealing with This Problem?
Facebook often suggest for password replacement after you have received its security alerts. You are suggested to change your password if you did not log-in to your account in different device or location.
Did I Experienced This Problem?
I have not experienced this problem myself but I don't know how long these people (hackers) will definitely make a way to hack more Facebook accounts. Also, I always received notifications from Facebook that I have log-in in a different device. I have seen some of my Facebook group mate (co-member) posting pornographic video with link to another Facebook page that goes to the fake website. This fake website contains a log-in page similar to Facebook log-in page. I don't really know if they're involved in such activity. It is really difficult to distinguished a non-hacker to a real hacker if the hacker already hijacked their accounts.
How They Steal Your Facebook Account Information?
Hackers steal your Facebook account information using a fake website (Phishing website).
Posting a Pornographic Video that Goes to a Fake website (Phishing website).
A hacker or hacker's victim account (hijacked account) will post a pornographic video in your group. This video connects to its fake website (Phishing website) and clicking it will redirect you to the fake Facebook log-in page in their fake website.
What is a Phishing website?
A Phishing website is a website which will try to steal your personal information like username and password by pretending to be the legitimate website.
See that the hacker or hacker's victim account posted a pornographic video in your group. See above illustration.
They are using another Facebook Page as starting point for the Phishing website.
You'll be redirected to another Facebook page where you can click the video link. see below.
By clicking the video, you will be redirected to a fake website (Phishing website).
The Google chrome will sense that the website is dangerous and will give you a warning before you can continue to the dangerous or fake website. Always check the security certificate of any website you're visiting to ensure that the website is safe.
How to check for website security certificate?
At the upper left corner of the page (in the address bar) you'll see an icon either a triangle with exclamation point or a lock. If you see a triangle with exclamation point, the website is dangerous or not secured. A secure website will display a lock which means that the website is secure.
See the image below.
Note: In most cases you will see this warning in your browser. There are phones/pc that the default browser is not google chrome. Also, you will not see this warning if it is not your first time to open the link.
The Website Pretends to be the Facebook Login Page.
The website pretends to be a legitimate Facebook log-in page. Always check the website name if it is Facebook website your logging in.
How Do We Protect Our Account From This Hacker's Link?
Avoid clicking pornographic video in Facebook. Facebook does not allow any pornographic content on their Platform. They disallow contents like this on their website. Do not enter your Facebook username and password outside Facebook website. Always check for the website security certificate before going to or using any website.
Lastly
Do not share your Facebook username and password to anyone except to your parents (for minors only) or wife they need it for security reason. Better not to share your account to your boyfriend or girl friend but still it is up to the both of you if you're going to share your password to each other.
